Making Rainbows

Base 2 have continued their exploration into colour by making their own rainbows out of pipe cleaners and playdough. We worked hard to try and follow the order of the rainbow colours and really worked on our perseverance when using our fine motor skills to get the pipe cleaners to stay upright in the playdough! Miss Chetwood was very proud of us!

Chinese New Year

Base 2 have been learning about Chinese New Year this week. We have talked about ‘The Great Race’ and how each year came to be named after an animal. This year is the year of the horse. We used the internet to research what the animal was the year the children were born – a tiger or an Ox. We also found out the animals for the years Miss Chetwood and Mrs Baronet were born – a dragon and a tiger. We then explored writing some Chinese numerals and making paper lanterns.

Instructions in Computing

Base 2 are learning all about how to give and follow instructions as part of their computing unit this half term. Today we played a game where we had to give each other instructions about what item of clothing to put on next and where to put it. The person following their instructions was also against the timer so we had a lot of fun! Well done Base 2!

Colours in the Environment

As part of our colour topic, Base 2 went on a colour hunt during their Little Explorers session this week. We looked for natural and man-made colours in our environment and talked about how the seasonal changes impact the colours we might find. We saw brown bark, soil, stones and leaves. We saw red berries and green plants.

STEM Week

For STEM week, Base 2 have focused on the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff and the concept of building bridges. We used a multitude of different construction resources including wooden blocks, duplo and lego and built our own bridges to help our small world toys escape the troll.

Shape Hunting

Base 12 have been learning about shapes in maths. We have been looking for circles and triangles in our environment and telling each other how we know it’s a circle or a triangle. “It has 3 corners”. “It has 1 curved side”.

National STEM Day

Look at what we’ve been up to:

We made telescopes and foil textured moon paintings for National Stem Day! The children loved hunting for the stars and pretending to be space explorers.
