Classroom Information

Reading

Here at Randlay we love to read! We recognise how important reading is as well as how exciting it can be!

In your child's reading diary, comments should be completed by a parent/carer at least four times a week. The children will receive a teacher comment once a week. If children do not read at home, they will be given chance to catch up during break/lunch time.

In year 2 we encourage the children to start writing comments in their own diaries. You can use the prompts at the front of your diary to help you. They are linked below also.

We check diaries every Thursday and reward raffle tickets to those children who have read at least four times. They are then entered into our 'Big Book Draw' in Friday's celebration assembly.

Well done Austin and Denzel for being drawn in the raffle this half term!

P.E

We are lucky to have excellent PE lessons at Randlay, delivered by the Crossbar coaches.  This term our PE sessions will take place on Monday and Tuesdays.

The school P.E kit consists of a plain white t-shirt, navy blue or black shorts/joggers and plimsolls or trainers.  Children can come in their P.E kit on these days. Please do not wear football tops for P.E kit.

Homework

Homework is set every Friday and needs to be completed by the following Thursday, so that it can be marked.

Homework Activities

  • Children will be given a set of ten spellings based off either a phoneme or spelling rule. These need to be practiced four times a week.
  • Times table or number bond practice.

As well as homework, rehearsing time tables and counting is also really important.

For year one children: Practice counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

For year two children: Practice 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

The children also need to know the Common Exception words for Year 1 and 2. You can find a checklist for your year group below.
