We have been asked by the Community Children’s Asthma Specialist Team to share an important asthma health message with parents and carers.
Healthcare professionals often see a significant increase in asthma symptoms and asthma-related hospital admissions during September, following the return to school. Taking a few simple steps before the new term starts can help children stay well and ready to learn.
If Your Child Has Asthma, Please Remember To:
- Book an annual asthma review with your GP practice before school restarts.
- Check that your child has an up-to-date Asthma Action Plan.
- Ensure inhalers are in date, working correctly, and readily available when needed.
- Review inhaler technique and make sure your child knows how to use their inhaler and spacer correctly.
- Be aware of asthma triggers, including air pollution, seasonal changes, and respiratory infections.
Please see the attached NHS information posters for further guidance and support.
Thank you for helping us to keep our children healthy, safe, and ready for a successful start to the new school year.
