Reading.

This term we are reading Across the Roman Wall. We have already made predictions about what the characters might be like and what might happen in the story. We used the pictures on the front cover and the blurb to make these inferences.

We love to read in Base 111! Reading comments should be completed in the children’s reading diaries.  Year 3 children need to have read at least four times. This is rewarded with a raffle ticket for our ‘Big Book Draw’ every Friday. The lucky winner to be drawn out of the Year 3 & 4 box will receive a book token for the vending machine. Children should make a comment each time they read, using the question starters in their diaries to help them to write comments. Parents and carers are also allowed to comment in diaries if they wish to.

Maths.

Your child will have a log in in their homework book for times table rock stars, although the Multiplication Tables Check is for Year 4, we like to practise ours too to make Year 4 a little easier! For now focus on the 2, 5 10, 4 and 8 tables first. Children should be able to recall these facts and the matching division statements at speed.  Mastering these multiplication facts is crucial, as they form the foundation for more complex mathematical concepts encountered in later years. Fluency in times tables not only enhances problem-solving skills but also boosts confidence in handling various math challenges.

Homework.

Homework is handed out every Friday and books need to be brought back into school by Thursday at the latest. As part of the homework, children will be given a list of spelling words, which are taught through their English work, reading and Maths or English work. We practise our spellings every morning ready to be tested on a Friday morning.

PE

Our PE sessions for the Spring Term will be taught every Monday,  Please come to school in your PE kit on these days. Our PE kit consists of the red Randlay PE top, a black hoody and black shorts or joggers/leggings. On Thursday we have outdoor learning! For these sessions children need to bring in warm, old clothes, they get very mucky. We recommend lots of layers, joggers rather than jeans including a waterproof top layer. Children must have hats, gloves and boots. These should b brought to school in a named bag. Children will change into these clothes for outdoor learning and we will go out in all weathers!

LOST THINGS

Firstly, please only send the equipment your child needs for school e.g. book bags, coats, school uniform, water bottles and lunchboxes. These items must have names so we can get them back to your child if they are lost. Thank you.
