Welcome to Base 7

This Year 1 and 2 class is taught by Mrs Trathowen and supported by Mrs Li.

In this class we always strive to follow the 3 B’s, by being kind to each other and always trying our best.

Summer Term 2026 – Our topic this term is Scrumptious Garden!

This summer term, we’re diving into our exciting topic, Scrumptious Garden! 🌱🍓 We’ll be discovering a wonderful variety of plants, fruits, and vegetables, learning all about how they grow, and even planting some ourselves. As we get our hands dirty, we’ll explore what plants need to thrive and watch our garden come to life! 🌼🌿

In English this term, we’ll be exploring a rich collection of engaging and imaginative texts, including Grandad’s Camper by Harry Woodgate, Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers, and The Great Fire of London by Emma Adams. Through these stories, pupils will journey across different themes—from heartwarming adventures and friendships to significant moments in history. These texts will inspire our creativity and curiosity, helping us to develop key reading skills such as comprehension, inference, and discussion. They will also provide exciting opportunities for writing, as we experiment with storytelling, descriptive language, and recounts based on real and fictional events.

Class Systems

Reading for pleasure!

In Base 7, we place a great emphasis on reading for pleasure and are always finding any opportunity within the school day to share a range of stories and texts to help nurture a love of reading.

We love to hear about the children’s favourite stories and have introduced a reading for pleasure book that the children can share at home. We would encourage everyone to share books and read for pleasure at home as much as possible, revisiting favourite stories often. Reading for pleasure books will be changed on a Friday.

Individual Reading

Reading of your individual reading book should be completed at least four times per week and recorded with a comment in the reading diary.  Remember you will be entered into the reading raffle if this has been completed and all of your reading will help us in the weekly reading challenge to be the class to complete the most reads in school!!

Homework

We will send homework on a Friday and it needs to be returned by the following Thursday please. This will consist of the weekly spelling and maths focus.

P.E. – Wednesday

P.E. kits need to be worn every Wednesday & Thursday.

The school P.E. kit consists of a red Randlay logo T-shirt/plain red top, black PE shorts/plain black jogging bottoms and a black logo PE hoodie/plain black sweatshirt.

Outdoor Learning – Thursday

This term we are very lucky as we have our outdoor learning sessions with Rachel. We ask that children come to school wearing their uniform but bring with them a change of old clothes, including a waterproof coat, long sleeve top, long trousers or leggings and wellies.
