Welcome to the creative curriculum activities for week 1!

All of the activities below will be offline, meaning you will NOT need any device to complete them.

Below you will find four activities which you can complete across the upcoming week.

This week includes Earth Day on the 22nd of April, so we thought it would be a nice focus for this first week.

I hope you enjoy the activities and be sure to email your class your amazing work! We miss seeing your wonderful achievements!

Activity 1: Art

Picture 1

Task:

To create a collage of Earth.

What you will need:

  • A piece of paper
  • Blue and Green paper (this could be pieces you find in a magazine/newspaper or coloured paper)
  • Glue stick
  • Pencil

How to:

  • First, start by drawing a large circle in the middle of your page.
  • Next, outline where your landmass will be.
  • After that, start to rip up your paper and place them into a pile of blue and a pile of green.
  • Then, start to layer (and keep layering) and glue down your pieces of paper until you have covered your Earth.

Activity 2: DIY Planter

Picture 1

Task:

To create a DIY planter to grow seeds in.

What you will need:

  • A 2 litre bottle
  • Soil
  • Seeds (Amazon or a supermarket - could be added to shopping list ONLY when buying essentials).
  • Pens

How to:

  • First, cut the bottle in half, you will need the bottom half and the lid.
  • Next, add the soil to the bottom half of the bottle.
  • After that, add the seeds to the soil and cover them with some soil.
  • Then, water your seeds (don't go mad though, just cover the surface).
  • Finally, get your bottle cap and a pen and decorate your DIY plant pot.

Activity 3: Eco Poster

Picture 1

Task:

To create a Triple R poster.

What you will need:

  • Pens
  • Paper

How to:

  • First, start by adding your headings: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (remember you want these to catch peoples attention so make them bold and bright).
  • Next, write some I can statements to explain how you could achieve those headings...

For example:

I can reduce the water I use by turning the tap off when I brush my teeth.

I can reuse a water bottle.

I can recycle the plastic waste in my house.

  • Finally, make the poster beautiful by decorating it.

Activity 4: Observing

Picture 1

Task:

To go out into your garden or look out of a window and observe the natural wildlife.

What you will need:

  • optional paper to make notes.

How to:

This activity is all about observing nature. You can either choose to do this with someone or independently. It could also be written down or verbally discussed. While you are observing think about the following questions:

  • What can I see?
  • What does that creature look like?
  • Is there something similar between that creature and a creature I have seen before?
  • What is that creature doing?
  • Why is that creature doing that?
  • What purpose does that creature have, why are they important?
  • What would happen without that creature?
  • How many creatures can you see altogether?
