In maths we have been focusing on place value and addition, using objects and parts to show and add numbers together. We have used the Part-part-whole model and Ten frame to support our learning.
In English we have designed posters and written letters to our neighbours, focusing on keeping our KS1 garden space tidy using adjectives and command words in our writing. Our garden gnome has been the theme that we incorporated as the topic to inspire our writing.
We have completed a BIG WRITE where the children worked extremely hard. They used the story mountain model to create their own story of a garden gnome adventure.
In creative curriculum this term we have been focusing on taking inspiration from our garden gnome. We have designed and created a garden in a shoe box, built clay gnomes and made a mobile home for our gnome with wheels and axles.
During Black History week we looked at the Black African artist Alma Thomas. We designed and made mosaic art in the style of Alma.
We made links to the book ‘Rainbow Fish’ and explored the impact of plastic in the ocean. We also recycled bottles into Rainbow Fish.
In Science this term with Mrs Ball the children have been experimenting with different materials. They have explored a variety of objects and looked at the materials that they are made from. The children also tested which material was best for the noisy gnome shoes on different surfaces.
